The International Day of Democracy is marked on September 15 following the resolution of the United Nations General Assembly adopted in 2015 to observe 15 September as with the purpose of promoting and upholding the principles of democracy.
1995 – The decree moving the capital to the city of Akmola is issued. Moved to Akmola city in 1997, a solemn presentation of the new Kazakh capital as well as renaming to Astana take place in June of 1998.
2001 – Then-President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev visits the US Embassy in the city of Almaty to make an entry in the Book of Sorrows extending condolences to the American people over the 11 September attacks.
2006 – The first Russian edition of the Dīwān Lughāt al-Turk – the comprehensive dictionary of Turkic languages by the Turkic scholar Mahmud Kashgari - is presented at the house museum of Mukhtar Auezov in Almaty.
2011 – A grand mausoleum is erected in honor of the centuries-old friendship between the peoples of Kazakhstan and Russia in the village of Malyi Aral, Krasnoyarsk district, Astrakhan region, at the Bukey Khan’s grave.
2011 – Kazpost puts the postal stamp devoted to the 100th anniversary of the academician of the Academy of Sciences of the KazSSR, PhD Orymbek Zhautykov, into circulation.
2013 – Usk-Kamenogorsk city hosts a ceremony of unveiling the bronze statue to the renowned metallurgist of Kazakhstan Akhmat Kulenov in the square.
2016 – Almaty hosts the photo exhibition devoted to the life and work of Kazakhstani singer Batyrkhan Shukenov. Some 100 photos were on display.
2017 – Celebrations to mark the 120th anniversary of Kazkah poet Mukhtar Auezov take place in the village of Karauyl, Abai district, East Kazakhstan region, which also see the opening of the statue to one of the main characters of Auezov’s book Path of Abai Sultan Qunanbai – a father of the Kazakh poet and thinker Abai.
