Amal Meiramy, or Korіsu, is the traditional Kazakh holiday that symbolizes the beginning of Nauryz Holiday. The Kazakh word "Korіsu" means "handshake".
1921 - The Central Executive Committee of the Turkestan Republic decrees to rename the city of Verny to Alma-Ata (now Almaty).
1994 - The Kazakh State Law Institute (now KAZGUU University) is founded.
2004 - The Astrophysical Research Center is established. On 22nd January 2008, it is reorganized into National Center of Space Research and Technology JSC.
2013 - Kazakh violin virtuoso Marat Bisengaliev wins the Elgar Proliferation Award in recognition of his contribution to the heritage of Sir Edward Elgar, a prominent British composer.
2014 - Kazinform International News Agency presents the Chinese-language version of its website via an online video conference to Beijing.
