In 1991, the Supreme Council of the Kazakh SSR adopted the decree "On the Charter of the National State Bank of the Kazakh SSR". In accordance with the decree, the National State Bank became the property of the republic. It was also granted the status of the central bank.

The 1st Kazakhstan Entrepreneurs Forum with the participation of President Nursultan Nazarbayev and government officials was held in 1992.

In 1992, the Republic of Kazakhstan acceded to the International Organization of Turkic Culture (TURKSOY). It is an international organization which unites Turkic-speaking countries to preserve, develop and transmit common material and cultural monuments to the future generations. The organization is headquartered in Ankara, Turkey.

The first passenger train between Almaty and China's Urumqi was launched the same year.

A CD called Outstanding masters of vocal art of Kazakhstan was released as part of the Assyl mura (Musical heritage) project in 2005. Assyl mura is a non-commercial humanitarian project aimed at restoring and preserving the best musical pieces of the Kazakh music.

NATO Information Center was unveiled in 2006 in Almaty within the framework of the NATO Week. It was opened under the Al-Farabi Kazakh National University.

The same year, a monument to Turagul Kunanbayev was solemnly unveiled in Shymkent. It was installed in one alley with a monument to Abai. Turagul Kunanbayev is renowned for his translations of works of Russian and Eastern writers and poets, the poems and musical pieces he wrote and composed.

A monument to two-time Soviet Union hero Talgat Begeldinov was installed in 2009 in Aktobe. It was unveiled at the Military Institute named after Talgat Begeldinov.

Let's speak kazakhsha! (Let's speak Kazakh!) project was launched in 2011 with the support of the Ministry of Culture and the Kazakhstan Journalists Union.

Sara Nazarbayeva's book Filosofiya lyubvi (Philosophy of love) was published in 2011. It is dedicated to the development of Kazakhstan, but mainly focuses on the philosophy of love to an invididual, to Motherland and life in general.

In 2013, Galam JV and France's EADS Astrium signed a contract to explore the potential of STSAT satellite platform.

The same year, well-known Kazakhstani singer and composer, founder of Urker ethno-pop band Aidos Sagat became the first UN Goodwill Ambassador in Kazakhstan. It happened at the 2nd Ministerial Conference of Almaty Process on Refugee Protection and International Migration.

In 2015, Talgat Zholdybayev founded a new airline in Kazakhstan called Sunkar Air. It is based in Almaty and offers mainly business aviation services.

The Days of Kazakhstan in Turkey were held in 2016 in Ankara. The Kazakh delegation which attended the event visited the monument to the first President of Kazakhstan, Nursultan Nazarbayev, and the Ataturk Mausoleum in Ankara on the first day of their stay in Turkey.

In 2017, Kazakh drama Doroga k materi (A Road to Mother) won the top award at the New York Film Festival. Kazakhstani Altynai Nogerbek was named the Best Actress.
