In 1982, Sydyq Mukhamedzhanov's opera "Aqan Seri - Aqtoqty" (libretto by Gabit Musrepov) dedicated to the life and work of poet and composer Aqan Seri was premiered at the Kazakh Academic Opera and Ballet Theater.

In 1992, the United Nations Security Council without a vote adopted the resolution to admit the Republic of Kazakhstan as a UN Member. Kazakhstan became a full member of the organization on March 2, 1992.

In 1995, President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev and Chairman of the EU Council Alain Juppe in Brussels signed a Partnership and Cooperation Agreement between Kazakhstan and the EU.

In 2008, the Paryz Annual Contest for Social Responsibility of Business was established.

In 2010, the Consulate General of the Republic of Kazakhstan in New York City was opened.

Nazarbayev Centre, a multifunctional public institution for research and analysis and educational activities, was created in 2012.

The state prizes for achievements in science and technology, literature and art were established in 2015.

In 2017, Astana hosted the international meeting dedicated to the peaceful settlement of the Syrian conflict. The governments of Russia, Turkey, Iran, the U.S., Syria, and Special Envoy of the UN Secretary-General for Syria and the Syrian opposition confirmed their participation. Addressing the participants, President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev expressed confidence that the meeting in Astana will provide the necessary conditions for finding the acceptable solution to the Syrian conflict within the Geneva process under the UN aegis and will greatly contribute to the establishment of peace and stability in Syria.

The same day Aidos Serikkaliuly, a deputy of the East Kazakhstan Regional Maslikhat (a local representative body), struck gold at the Abu Dhabi Grand Slam Jiu-Jitsu World Tour (+110 kg weight class).

In 2018, the United Nations International Children's Emergency Fund (UNICEF) launched in Kazakhstan two communication campaigns aimed at preventing violence against children and promoting a friendly approach to children in conflict with the law.
