In 1992, Austria and the Republic of Kazakhstan established diplomatic relations which became effective upon signing of the joint communique.

The Republican Human Rights Commission was established in 1994. The main goal of the commission is to monitor whether human rights and freedoms are ensured in Kazakhstan.

In 2009, the Consulate General of the Republic of Kazakhstan was unveiled in the Iranian city of Gorgan, the capital of Golestan Province south of the Caspian Sea. The consulate was opened to boost Kazakh-Iranian partnership across multiple spheres and effectively use transport potential and investment opportunities of the province.

Kazakhstan and Italy inked the agreement on transit of military equipment and personnel through Kazakhstan's territory by rail and by air in 2013. Earlier Kazakhstan signed analogous agreements with other ISAF mission participants, including the U.S., Germany, Spain, Great Britain, France and NATO.

The Consulate of Turkmenistan opened its doors in Aktau in 2014. It will help strengthen cultural and humanitarian and economic relations between the two nations.

The National Library of the Republic of Kazakhstan announced a campaign "One country - one book" in 2015. Trilogy of novels Nomads by Ilyas Yessenberlin was declared the major book in 2015. The idea behind the campaign is to promote the Kazakh literature, preserve spiritual heritage and make reading and libraries in general popular again.
